Having been a family run business since 1965, here at Passmore's we feel that a sense of community built on a traditional family values is very important for today, tomorrow and the future.

We therefore feel we must do everything we can to those around us within the community who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances. This is why we are extremely proud and honoured to be actively involved with the 'Leeds Children's Charity.' A charity very close to the hearts o f the current directors Steve and Tony Passmore, whose grandmother visited Silverdale as a child in the early 1900's.

For well over a hundred years, the 'Leeds Children's Charity' has been raising funds so that children who suffer from poverty, neglect, abuse, learning difficulties, illness or are themselves young carers, get the chance to visit the seaside, make friends and have fun. They do this by sending 350 children each year, between the ages of 7-11, to their holiday centre in Silverdale an "area of outstanding natural beauty" on the border of Lancashire and Cumbria.

The children at Silverdale are carefully looked after by a dedicated staff and a range of indoor and outdoor actives take place such as various sports (including a spots day), arts and crafts, dance and music, bikes, go-carts, walks, swimming treasure hunts and bowling.

The activities allow the children to enjoy themselves whilst providing them with an adventurous, educational, inspirational and challenging outlet for their energies enabling the children to be happy, healthy, safe and secure. The week of fun enables the children to develop personal and interpersonal communication skills, confidence and self-esteem through team building and through forming lasting relationships with other children from different backgrounds.

The practical results of the project are evident in the behavioral change of the children, which enables them to better cope with the difficult situations at home and assists them in their schoolwork and social interaction.

The majority of children come from the most deprived areas of Leeds and are put forward by their schools, with the permission of their parents or carers, to be considered for a place on the holiday project. The project is wholeheartedly supported and endorsed by the families, schoolteachers, social workers and youth workers.
